Cinqo de Mayo

Mexico. When you think about Mexico you think about lovely sandy beaches, turtles and panuchos right? Yup. So do I. But Mexico has a vast cultural base, a very wide range of weather (snow in some parts, while in others it never drops below 20C), and Mayans. When I was still working in the public school system I would get January and February off so I would run away from the freezing windy cold of northern China and head off to the sunny south of Mexico and enjoy the Yucatan Peninsula. And get a tan. And play in the ocean. And run screaming every time I saw some stingray or manta-ray in the ocean. And eat countless panuchos.

Now to celebrate the rich culture of Mexico in China is not all that possible as getting my hands on fresh jalapenos this time of year is impossible, so we did the next best thing. We made margarita themed products in honour of Cinqo de Mayo. In Mexican history, this is the day that the Mexican Army had an unlikely victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. But, in United States, May 5th has taken on a different twist. It is a day to celebrate the Mexican-American culture.

So this May 5, take a shot of Tequila and sip away and enjoy the Margarita Line and dream of blue and green oceans, the Isla’s, fish, seafood, Uxmal and Dzibilchaltun’s cenote.
